Background

The hvv switch app is an all-in-one mobility app for Hamburg. It simplifies urban travel by combining public transport, carsharing, e-scooters, ridepooling (such as MOIA), and ticketing in one app. With a single account, users can easily switch between transport modes. The app supports hvv ticket purchases, including the Deutschlandticket, and provides access to over 200 hvv switch points for seamless intermodal travel.

Mission

The project centered on a comprehensive redesign of the hvv switch app, optimizing user flows and aligning the experience with individual user needs. As an Interface Designer, I collaborated with UX designers, Engineers, QA specialists and Product Owners to deliver user-centered, accessible, and inclusive solutions. A scalable UX & UI infrastructure was established to support modular design and faster iteration cycles.

Solution

The core goal is to enable quick purchases, reservations, and bookings in just a few simple steps. Users have a personalized dashboard with configurable modular widgets for flexible sizing and layout. The new corporate identity features a clean interface with modern illustrations and animations to enhance the user experience. Existing flows were streamlined to reduce cognitive load and improve efficiency throughout the app.

Accessibility

We strongly prioritize making our app accessible to all users. Our ongoing efforts focus on aligning with WCAG standards to remove barriers and support individuals with different abilities. Key features such as screen reader support, high-contrast display options, adjustable font sizes, and clear navigation are integral parts of the app. By embedding accessibility into every stage of design and development, we ensure an inclusive and seamless user experience.
